Title: OpenGL Problems Again
Post by: Termin8oR on June 30, 2005, 12:44:05 PM
Ok,

I have New OpenGL Drivers for my moms video card, I have installed Alpha 13 and the update acording to the Installation guide. But I am still getting the same error that says download the new drivers for your video card. I have a GForce 5200 and that should run Alpha 13 without any problems but it keeps giving me that same error. PLEASE HELP.
Im getting sick of this game giving me that Error everytime I try it on other computers that I know the video card can handle the game.... Somethings wrong with the install or something.
PLEASE HELP.

It happens in both alpha 13 and alpha 14?  What OS are you running?  Can you run other OpenGL games?

Im running Windows XP Pro, And yes other OpenGL Games work just not DP.
Can you make a mirror so I may download Alpha 10or12 ? I think they are the best ones personally.

Don't do any updates.  Just install build 13 clean and fresh.  See if it works.  If not, try build 12:

Alpha 14 will work fine with a 5200, and if you're having problems all the way back to alpha 10, something must be wrong with your drivers.  Are you sure you installed them properly?

Use this driver:
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/77.72/77.72_win2kxp_english_whql.exe

Did you try installing the drivers from the link I gave you?  I still think your drivers aren't installed properly.

I tryed the drivers from the link you gave, but still same problem. I still cannont play DP :(

Is there a quake2 standalone for DP that does not need quake2 installed on my computer? If so please make a link for me to download it, PLEASE.

Um, you already have the standalone...

Try glsetup -- it automatically detects and installs drivers for you: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download383.html

Not sure if it still works or not, but it's worth a shot.

Edit: scratch that.  The thing is ancient -- only works with win9x, lol.

Edit2:  Try this.  Right-click on the desktop, go to "Properties" then the "Settings" tab and click on the "Advanced..." button.  See if there's a Geforce FX tab on there.  If not, you didn't install the drivers properly.  Make sure you have administrator rights when installing drivers.

I have a version of q2 that does not require anything from the user other than clicking on the quake 2 icon.

Just sending the .exe wount help anything... if you could take all the files and put them into one folder and zip them, then send it and I can just open the zip file and run what I need to.

That would be illegal, and it still probably wouldn't work unless you want to play in software mode.  Fix your drivers.

no crack is illegal? Gee the guy at Game Stop was not told that or at lest he did not tell me when I "bought" the game .

and yes it does work.  "just unzip and enjoy" sound familer

and oh yes FIX those drivers blah.

I'm saying to zip up and send quake2 media would not be legal.

You would know better than I. So I guess the no cd crack is illegal too? :)
Title: Re: OpenGL Problems Again
Post by: jitspoe on July 27, 2005, 08:25:15 PM
You don't need a no cd crack.  Once the point release came out, it removed the CD check.
Title: Re: OpenGL Problems Again
Post by: Eiii on July 28, 2005, 05:47:45 AM
Also, no crack is leagal as long as you own the CD. Like how it's legal to copy music as long as it's for personal use. Well, that's not the same, but when you dad was a copyright lawyer...

I am having the same problems that termin8r had.  When I try to run build 14 an error comes up and says "Error during initilization.  Make sure you have an OpenGL capable video card and that the latest drivers are installed."

I was able to play build 14 before, but I am now not able to play with any of the past builds at all.  The same error shows up with every build I try to use.  I didn't switch computers or drivers.  It just wont let me play and I dont understand why.

Well, it might have been something that installed along with AAO, so that's what I was referring to.  Did it update directx or anything?  Have you tried installing new OpenGL drivers again?  Or maybe installing old ones?
Title: Re: OpenGL Problems Again
Post by: loial21 on October 24, 2005, 07:17:43 PM
No I have the direct 9.c . Could it be my graphics driver installed funky? Thanks for the help anyhow. Just weird and slightly annoying.
Title: Re: OpenGL Problems Again
Post by: jitspoe on October 24, 2005, 07:50:33 PM
I'm not sure if this applies, but for XP, there's a program called driver cleaner which you can use to clean out the old drivers before (re)installing new ones.  If it works with win98, you might give it a shot, but be sure to read the instructions carefully.

I have been looking for a good  3rd party reg cleaner. Will that software help like windows wipe etc?

FYI I have dumped 2.5 aao, everything works fine, so far.

Thanks for the help.
