Title: WARNING: ATI Catalyst 4.9 Drivers Incapable
Post by: DoNuTs on September 14, 2004, 01:52:39 PM
Any ATI users out there ? Make sure you don't use the Catalyst 4.9 Drivers. They will mess up your game badly. I downloaded them, and they screwed up my windows xp.

OpenGL 1.0 is not supported anymore as of the 4.9 beta drivers. Oh, and:

ATI YOU ALL CAN BURN IN HELL YOU GOD darn intercourseRS!!!!!!!!

I'll wrap up build 12 shortly, then build 13 will be dedicated to making it compatible with ATimbecile's drivers.

Yeah, it seems like ATI really rushed their drivers. They were falling behind the GeForces in Doom3, and they wanted to stay competitive so they hurried to write drivers and released some pretty shoddy ones.

Anyway, I think the 4.9 driver only gives you a significant benefit if you have one of the really new models of ATI cards (newer than the 9800 Pro). Downgrading to 4.7 shouldn't cause a difference in most games.

Something's wrong with my video card, and i just downloaded the drivers. It only seems to be a problem in Paintball2, though. I can play it for a while, but sometimes it freezes up my whole computer. Here are my OpenGL options:

Asyncronous Flip: off
Triple Bufering: Default
Flipping Policy: Flip
Depth Bufer Bit Depth: Default

(texture compression crap....all off)

Driver Memory Footprint: Normal
Texture Color Depth: Desktop Color Depth
Anistropic Filtering: Application Control.

Any of those sound like they might cause problems w/ pball2?

And a 50fps decrease in everything else!
