Title: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: Spydie on July 03, 2006, 08:05:59 AM
Hey guys, i just put together a little pack of crosshairs that i made for DP, they're not great so please don't hate XD. I hope you like them; feedback would be nice. ------
Readme.txt has instructions if you don't know how to install the crosshairs. You need to have WinRAR in order to extract.

The Download link is:
http://dpball.com/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2622.0;attach=498

Thanks.

Edit: download link

alias +zoom "crosshair 15;fov 30;sensitivity 5"
alias -zoom "crosshair 9;fov 100;sensitivity 10"
bind f +zoom

:D
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: Spydie on July 03, 2006, 02:32:55 PM
The code below makes it only zoom as mouse3 is held;
on mouse3 letgo, it goes back
Code: [Select]
alias +zoom "crosshair 15;fov 50;sensitivity 2.6"
alias -zoom "crosshair 9;fov 100;sensitivity 4.8"
bind mouse3 +zoom

The code below zooms in when mouse3 is clicked;
and goes back when mouse3 is clicked again. (I prefer this one)
Code: [Select]
alias +zoom "crosshair 15;fov 50;sensitivity 2.6;bind mouse3 -zoom"
alias -zoom "crosshair 9;fov 100;sensitivity 4.8;bind mouse3 +zoom"
bind mouse3 +zoom

hmm crosshair 15 is just a little offset from the middle, shouldn't effect aiming, though.

i would, but it's hard for me to switch hands while in zoom, since i use mouse3

Well, have you read s8ns tutorial for making crosshairs? Either you make the line 2 pixels thick or you have an offset crosshair

*Please* smoothen up the edges of that circle if you can, it really looks terrible...
I might play around with gimp to see if I can cook up something a little cooler for all you zoom kiddies.  I still think that zooming is incredibly rediculous in PB2, however.

Post by: TinMan on July 04, 2006, 10:06:27 PM
Haha, too bad when you actually shoot the paintballs will land just before his feet, lol.
I just use a normal dot crosshair with my zoom bind for "sniping", that crosshair blacks out way too much of the screen to be reasonable.

Can't you make it so you'll zoom automaticly when you crouch?
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: Eiii on July 05, 2006, 02:42:11 AM
You can, but that would be dumb. If you try to hide behind something, you zoom.

Here's the alias anyway.

Code: [Select]
alias +cr "+movedown;+zoom"
alias -cr "-movedown;-zoom"

Oh, then you'll need a +/-zoom alias. A-likea-this.

Code: [Select]
alias +zoom "crosshair 15;fov 50;sensitivity 2.6"
alias -zoom "crosshair 9;fov 100;sensitivity 4.8"
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: jitspoe on July 05, 2006, 09:28:06 AM
I haven't had a chance to look at these yet, but a couple things:
a) You should use higher numbers.  Your crosshairs will get overwritten if I include new ones in future releases.
b) Are these your own original work and would you be willing to release them under the GPL or creative commons so I could include some of them with future releases?
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: Spydie on July 05, 2006, 09:27:08 PM
Jitspoe: They are ALL 100% my own, and talk to me on irc about that, or aim, whichever is good for you.. I'll update, and start at 20 instead of 9. Lun, the screen looks so good because my map is in the background XD. Eh, tinman, when you zoom, you usually focus on the very middle of the screen, it gives you a much more zoom-like feel. Thanks guys.
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: bitmate on July 06, 2006, 03:07:31 AM
I'm not sure why this is so, but whenever I use the zooming crosshair, I still can see the map on the left and on the right side of the crosshair.
As I'm at school in the moment, I can't add any screenshots, but I'll do so when I'm back home.

It basicly looks like:
Code: [Select]
|  map  |  zooming  |  map  |
|  map  |  zooming  |  map  |
|  map  |     +     |  map  |
|  map  |  zooming  |  map  |
|  map  |  zooming  |  map  |

Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: jitspoe on July 06, 2006, 11:51:00 AM
Try "hudscale 3".

Spydie: A quick glance at the crosshairs shows they're not using power of 2 resolutions.  This will make them very poor quality because they have to be scaled up or down.  All images should be powers of 2 in size.  That means 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, ...
Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack

* bitmate deletes his zooming crosshair.

Title: Re: Custom Crosshair Pack
Post by: Spydie on July 08, 2006, 01:54:22 PM
Vinne: Read the Readme.txt that came with the zip.
Jitspoe: Photoshop won't let me save the crosshairs as tga or pcx. So i have to save them as a transparent-supporting extention. I open the tiff in Gimp and then save them as .tga files. Is there a way to save them in photoshop as tga or pcx?
It also won't let me save them as tga/pcx in imageready.

And, umm, Vinne? That wasn't even worth a post. You just put 'ya' in front of the last line in smokey's post. You could have made a completely off-topic post and that wouldn't be so bad, but you just posted EXACTLY what the person above you posted. At least try to be original, or something.

It's possible to export transparent TGA's straight from photoshop.  You should just be able to file|save as and select tga, then use the 32bit option (and optionally RLE compression to make it smaller).

Omg. The zooming has nothing to do with the crosshair, and you can find something that tells you how to zoom in about 10 places on this forum. Seriously Vinne, learn to do things for yourself once in a while.

Yeah, that's what I remember you saying.

Vinne, please try to understand what you're talking about before spouting out questions. Read through this thread some, learn how binds work, and learn what FOV does. You have to use FOV to zoom. The scroll wheel can just be binded to change the FOV. That's what I just said. Please pay attention to people's posts.

i just my little red dot to Zoom with the scroll on the mouse

Writing sentences coherently is a good first step to getting your question answered. I'll assume you want to zoom with the mousewheel.
If you look just a few pages back, there's something that tells you how to do that. Feel free to look at it, no one's stopping you.

Photoshop loads .act file (Adobe Color Table, I think is what it stands for) not .pal, so make sure you have the .act files.  I think it's somewhere around/in indexed colors in the menu.  I don't have photoshop handy right now to tell you.

You need to create the binds and aliases... (fov <number> for zoom)

seta normfov $fov
alias inczoom "cvar_inc fov -5 60 90; cvar_inc sensitivity -REPLACETHISWITHANUMBER;echo current fov: $fov"
alias deczoom "cvar_inc fov 5 60 90; cvar_inc sensitivity REPLACETHISWITHANUMBER;echo current fov: $fov"
