I have created maps using the Valve Hammer Editor and i am a pro at it. Problem is switching editors and learning over again is a big problem. I have downloaded the official map maker from this website and its too hard to follow especially since the screen is all messed up with crazy line colors and stuff.
K well i heard of Worldcraft for making quake 2 maps and is it possible to create PBALL maps off that?
I have tried to apply some of my precious counterstrike maps into and it reads even the .wad file. Soi tried to complie it into PBALL mod and it keeps saying that it could not locate my BSP and isnt that what it is suppossed to make?
Any advice?
-
I haven't played with the Hammer editor, but with a little work, it's probably possible to get it to make paintball2 maps (though the license agreement may prohibit this). Worldcraft also would require some setting up to get it to work with paintball2. There were some files for it at one point, but I think they've long disappeared.
-
Ok i just tested my compiler with the sample.map and its works fine.
Now! with my .map file that was created using valve hammer editor was loaded using the BSP editor sussecfully.
Is it ok if i leave textures using the .wad file or should i apply new set of textures that came with my game?
Also the entities are still in counterstrike format and i probably should figure out how to change the lights and the triggers into the way they can be read by the BSP program
Also my map is very big with detail as you can see in http://www.csm2.net/view_map.php?map_id=2117 how will i set the viewing distance to the map wont be cut off as it was in counterstrike? Also can the BSP compiler take this map (meaning it wont be confused)?
Also if you do know where the files for the worldcraft are to make pball maps please send them to me.
Thanks

I have another question.
How do i move the 3d camera view in the screen and select the entities so i can change them?
-
You can use the arrow keys to move around in the 3d view, delete and pgdn look up and down, pgup resets the view. Shift + up/down moves up and down. To select and edit an entity, shift+click on it (or just click in the 3d view) and press "e"

OK thatnks alot that helped me big time.
Also i made a really cheap map and it wrtoe he bsp but coudnt read the prt. is that a good thing or a bad thing? Although my map still works.
Now im trying to use my big detailed map into the bsp and i try to apply texture to it and i have to do it one by one (face by face)? Why cant i select the whole polygon and texture it because my map is way to big doing it one by one espacially with the lag its creating over worldcraft 3 second delay?
Any tips?
-
Also another thing.
How to i specify the size of the CO2 tank and the type of paintball gun if it doesnt give me a selection?
-
You might be better off using the .wal files in the BSP pack as they more accurately match the current textures. As for the entity questions, this should help: http://www.planetquake.com/digitalpaint/v2/docs/ents.html -- it's pretty old and outdated, though. The entity documentation in the BSP pack is a little better, but WC is a crappy editor and about the only one that won't read standard entity files. :P

OK well i am using worldcraft to make my maps but not to compile it because it just wont work.
I am also using worldcraft to apply texture using the ones in BSP folder
I am also applying the entities in it which seems to me that worldcraft chooses random types of them. WHY? because i can't get the BSP editor to place more than one entity for some strange reason which i hope you guys can tell me.
-
You need to add the "type" key to your entities to specify what type of item you want, otherwise they will be random. To place another entity in BSP, hit ESC to deselect the one you have selected, then hit "Make entity" again.
-
Well when i try to do the type thingy I added the "type" in as the key and the value as "g_autoc" and it still gives me random but i guess its best to do this in BSP
-
Hey i finally changed everything around in my old counterstrike map and i know it compiles my other maps fine but this time it says.

What is wrong here?
-
I blame the editor. ;) Google the error and see what it comes up with. I'm not sure what that one means.
-
Yo im getting the hand of BSP but why isnt it letting me choose the type of gun and even grenades dont even show up in my map and how do i add a flag in the map? and how do i set up the setting the team wall so they wont cross and stuff. By the way how do you make the team wall?
Please answer!
-
Create an "item_pballgun" entity, then press the + button to add a key, and add "type" "stingray" (or whatever you want to use -- see the link I posted previously for all the types -- they should also be in the entity help, click on the "?"). Flags are simply the "flag" entity. I'm not sure what you mean by "team wall." If you mean an invisible wall like in dodgeball, it's just a clip brush. If you mean a border that can't be crossed in siege mode (defense can't exit the base), it's just a base entity, but you have to set up your map for siege mode.
-
hey how come my grenades arent showing on my maps?
-
You need to have team spawn points (info_player_deathmatch with the teamnumber set) for grenades to spawn automatically.
-
What do you mean by the teamnumber? Im just about done my map now. All i need are those darn grenades and i can get it over with. I have the info_player_deathmatch and i set it to red/blue team. And it gives me the name of the entity and the team... But what do u want me to add. Would you like to to change the info_player_deathmatch so it has key=teamnumber and value=1 (1 for red 2 for blue)????????????
-
Grenades don't spawn until after the match starts. Type "set debug1 1" at the console to make it so you can play with just a single player.
-
No they still dont show up im my map. I had my friend come in my server i set it to elimination...ctf..dm i tried all of them and the grenades still arent there.
-
Alright i got the paintball grenade in my map. But theres another problem "How do I specify where the grenades spawn because it is random"?
-
They're randomly placed by the player spawns, but there is a grenade entity somewhere...
-
item_pballgrenade, I think. Look at the entities in BSP.
-
I did use the grenade entity i even applied it using that program and it just doesnt want to listen to me. Another thing i relized is that when i made 2 jail spawns "jail" "1" and "jail" "2" it still makes my guy spawn anywhere in one of those jail spawns? I want to make seperate jail location for the 2 teams one red and one blue.
-
Just use "jail" "1", then use "teamnumber" to specify the team (same as the regular spawns).
For the grenade spawns, you have to use "angle" "-1" to make it spawn there exactly, otherwise it just spawns in that general area.
-
Ok the grenades still dont show up on their spawn for some reason
-
Can you post the .map file so I can take a look at it?
-
Alright the ProDodgeball.map is my map that i cant seem to put grenades where i want them to. This is just my map that i made in like 1 seconds not my other one that i have been working for some time.
Also map.map is my friends map. This is his first map he ever made and i showed him how everything works and it has a problem. The map overflows everytime i start it after i compiled it. I tried to fix somethings around even deleting like half his map and it still overflows. I did fix lots of blocks into other blocks where he had many object inside of walls for him.
-
yea the map.map one is mine ;D ;D ;D
-
OMG SPAWNINABOX 2!!!1! FINALLY!
Also, on the map.map- cool it on the enitites. That may be your problem.
Yep. I deleted all of the entities (except for the TWO SPAWNS!) and it works. Bad map, bad, bad map. Evil. It must be killed.
Here's the constructive part-
Align your textures.
Barrels are shorter than that. Model yours after the ones in sample.map.
That's a box map. Box maps are bad.
You don't need ~100 guns/co2s/ammo for TWO SPAWNS.
-
LOL. Ya well that was my friends map and mine like i said i made it in 2 minutes really fast. And i have my other bigger map just about done i just didnt want anyone to have access to it and claim it as there own.
-
wtf your saying that i cant put eight guns on each side? cause thats bull**** if i cant.
-
and its my first map you jerk!
-
I think you hurt my friends feelings as it was it first map......I dont think thats nice
-
wtf your saying that i cant put eight guns on each side? cause thats bull**** if i cant.
You have 30 guns, 5 boxes of ammo, 13 co2s, 10 hoppers, and 10 barrels, all in a tiny part of your map 320x320 units. Per side.
Not to mention that you only have one spawn per side. All the entities were why you were overflowing, by the way.
Honestly, you need to texture your buildings better. Actually, just using more than one texture would be good. You need to re-align your ladder. You're missing a group of barrels on one side. The barrels are miscolored one the blue side. And you need to realign the barrel textures.
EDIT:
And I forgot he lights. That's not how you do lighting. You should use sky light (in the ArghRad readme) Or surfaces that emit light.
That's what's wrong with your map, apart from the layout.
-
That is true.
-
you know what i meant it wasent that its has to many entities its that you said that it should be killed and poop well go f yourself you jerk you have to remember its my first map!
-
woah dont freak out
-
I criticized your map(constructively, nonetheless!). It's not a very good map. Just because it's your first map doesn't mean it's good. Keep trying. Do more complex stuff than box maps.
-
Well can anyone please tell me how to get my grenades in the where i place them?
-
Ok, I guess it's a bug in the code. What you did should have worked, though I don't think we ever actually tried to use it like that in a map.
Do this instead:
Set "count" to "1" on all the paint grenades.
Add "paintgrenades" "-1" and "smokegrenades" "-1" to the worldspawn to keep grenades from spawning around the player spawns.
-
what most i do i i want that it choose be it self what gun it gives so maybe this time a automag and later the stingre ore whatever
and if i safe a map it is saved as a .map file buth my pb2 only reads .bsp files what most i do?
thnx gr

Your English is a little hard to read, but to get the map in the .bsp format, you have to use the export menu. Export/final compile will do a full compile.
-
srry i'm not so good in english:s
buth i still don't get it:S i don't know what you mean
-
If you installed BSP properly, you should just be able to go to the "Export" menu, select "qbsp", and it will compile the map, copy it into the paintball2 maps directory, and load it up in paintball2.
-
Yo it partly worked!
My grenades spawn where they should but they still spawn around the spawn point Even though i did exatly what you have said about the worldspawn
-
Okay, I messed around with the grenade thing for about 10 seconds, and got it to work. You need these values:
'count''1'
'angle''-1'
'type''paint'
They spawn in the exact same place every time.
-
Here's the map with the corrected grenades and worldspawn. It works properly for me.
-
where do u change the type of a gun? and gren? becaus u alway say type of gun?? buth don't get it srry
thnx
-
On the weapon_pballgun entity, add a key called "type" with a value of "trracer"' "stingray", "vm68", "spyder", "carbine", "autococker", "automag", "low", "medium", or "high", depending on which weapon, or range of weapons, you want to spawn there.
-
thanks!!!!!!!
-
hey i made a map and i cant put it in my sever help?oh yea its says .map and some one said something bout .bsp
-
You have to compile it. In BSP go to export|qbsp.
