Title: DPLogin Name Deletion Time
Post by: jitspoe on June 11, 2008, 09:51:32 AM
Currently there is a 32 day period before you can delete a name that you've registered.  I've done this primarily to prevent abuse and to make it harder for griefers to hide their identity, but also to encourage players to stick with one name and not constantly change it.  I'm still getting a lot of requests for name deletions.  I'm wondering if the time should be lowered, or perhaps just have a clear warning that names can't be removed for 32 days on the form to add names.

^^ agreed...  I mean they get 10!!! That's certainly enough... I say you put the warning, and do not take any name deletion requests at all... Out of the 10, they'll certainly have one they could stick with for 32 days before deleting them.

I agree there shouldnt even be a vote on this - most poeple only use about 4 names altgoher but they just add the names for the sake of it. theyll have to wait - its only 32 days.

When they come to you asking for a name deletion just say "no" and tell them to wait 32 days.

32 days, to me, should be more than sufficient

How about you delete names that are meant to impersonate someone else? Such as hellhound with toM|vendett4 and 0lbaid etc etc

Great.

Back on topic, a bit of info if you like, but don't lower it, the original reasoning is the right way to keep things.

That issue has already been dealt with (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=13113) and is not what this topic is about.

I voted it should be lowered, but in conjunction I still think we should have a master username that can't ever be deleted, it prevents people from completely disappearing and re-emerging.

Thats what I was thinking when I was looking at the list and saw I could delete the first name.

The problem with that is the first name somebody registers isn't always the name they go by.  It may also cause people to take more drastic measures, like multi-accounting, to hide their identity.

there are 10 names - ur likely to hvae what, like three fun names. that leaves seven. and i dont actually mean it should be made longer what i mean is that if is going to be changed out of either lower or higher, then higher is the better option. although i personally think its fine atm.

Maybe Jits should implement a system to where is you don't use a registered name in a given period of time, it expires and goes back in to the name pool......

agreed - im doing that too. i mean my names not well known but protection must be in place !! but if someone makes a name
say jitspoee to copy jitspoe it doesnt really matter cus its gonna look different firstly. and it doesnt really matter that much..

It's not that big a deal, but it would be nice if it was lowered, but only to the point where people can't abuse it.

20 days, perhaps?

Crap, using up 10 names in a month? you either are really nutty or you need to really start thinking your names out instead of being so obsessive compulsive. That is a name every 3 days, how can you get much enjoyment out of a name if you only use it for 3 or less days? The only thing i can think a person would be doing with that many name changes is going into games making obnoxious names and causing problems. Find a name, use it, protect it. I really don't even see why we need 10? why not 5.. I say the current rules are lenient enough why make it more so?

Personally, I need at least 10 to protect my name!

iamapirate
i_am_a_pirate
1amapirate
1amp1rate
1_am_a_p1rate
1_am_a_pirate
iamap1rate
i_am_a_p1rate
iamapir4te
i_am_a_pir4te
1amapir4te
iamapir@te
plus all the clan versions (>>AERO<<iamapirate, etc.)

the list goes on...

back on topic: Just put the warning on when they add a name that their name will be on for 32 days until you can delete it...

Uhm... No you don't?

When you register a new name using characters such as "_" and "@" It won't read them.

For example:
iamapirate AND i_am_a_pirate are the same exact thing when you register it like that, am I correct?
It won't read the characters. It only reads numbers and letters.

YEA

Also, I think, The way it's setup right now is just fine.

How about this.  Start at, say, 14 days.  Then add a week to that every month till you eventually disable deleting names.  And when people come to you whining about changing their name, just say "no".  :D
