Hey I followed the guide on how to run a dedicated server. Everything works ok, it's displayed in the server list, I can join and everything but where I go wrong is my rotation. It won't play the map I want it to even though I believe I have the rotation set up correctly. I have it setup correctly in the server.cfg to go to the right rotation list but it still won't work right. Also another question I have. Do you set the max players yourself or it is set automatically according to your bandwidth? Any help would be very much appreciated. :)
----------
After some thought I decided I would check the target of my shortcut. Sure enough it was set to play map midnight. I changed it to ub_cliff. It worked. ::) But I still would like to have my question answered about the max players. Thanks. :)
-
max_players is set up in the server.cfg file.
-
beat me too it..was just about to type that.
-
This is what I have in "myserver.cfg" What do I need to change to set max players? And another thing. How do I log into admin. What do I type in the login? And my server doesn't display on the server list on other computers. Only on mine. How do I fix that?

if you set maxclients to anything higher than 16, your server will randomly crash and you wil lbe harassed on the forums :D
-
Ok unless I am blind which I very well may be, I don't see "set maxclients" so where do I put it general settings?
----------
I went ahead and tryed it....worked. So anyone know how to make it display in the server list. I have to forward a port because I have a router. I remember seeing that in the guide. I know how to port forward but what port do I forward?
-
You said it was displayed in the server list...
-
On MY computer. I went to another computer in the house and it didn't display. Unless you guys can see it. It's up now. ..::UB_Cliff 24/7::..
-
..::UB_Cliff 24/7::..
Well, there goes any chance of help from the forum regulars :P
You will have to allow port 29710 through any firewalls and routers you have in your house. Alternatively, try this: http://digitalpaint.therisenrealm.com/tools/servertroubleshooter
-
Ok. We may have a problem here. I have 2 computers on one router which is connected to another router which is connected to the internet through a modem. Problem is, I don't know what IP to enable the port for on the second router nor do I know how to find out what it is. ::)
-
for running a server with just ub_cliffs 24/7.....
And I bet you'll set it up as an insta-spawn server too?
-
insta-spawn no? I have spawn time set at 5. why do I get the feeling people don't like ub_cliff??
-
Because its 24/7 on Syncmaster's Cable. And it's been like that for ages. Maybe a better map might suit it since there is already a 24/7 server.
-
insta-spawn no? I have spawn time set at 5.
lol
-
Oooooh I see. Sorry I ddin't realize. Ok I'll change the map...I'm new at this as you can prolly tell...
-
-pbcup_renoir
-carpathian
Maps that have stuff in their hands when spawned. Because if its gonna be 5 seconds you need stuff in your hands ready to go because people will be everywhere. I would like those 2 maps but its your choice.
-
Yeah Cam those are good maps. I changed the maps to those to for now. But I still don't even know if it will matter because I don't know if I will be able to get all this to even work so...
-
:) Good maps all day for once.
-
Yeah but as much as I want this to work, it's looking pretty grim. I can't get it to work! I don't really know where to go from here.
-----------
By the way anyone know what the map on the front page of this website is called? I really like that map.

Forgot the link xD

I've just been trying different things. I noticed the server console said something about master server so I tried putting the ip and port in and forwarded and blocked the port. Didn't seem to do anything...here's what I was talking about. Right under ....execing configs/....
Here is the results from the troubleshooter under those settings.

I'll switch everything back to the other settings and post those.

I set all the stuff back to how it was and here is the results...

> Can't connect to the server, so potential port forwarding/firewall problem
----------------------------------------------
-
Well, if you used the port i mentioned earlier in the firewall, nothing will have happened because it was the wrong one. Basically, what you want to do:
Go on the server computer, go to start-> run, type in cmd, press enter, type in ipconfig /all and press enter. You should find a local IP address, usually looks like 192.*.*.* . Then you go to your router/modem or whatever and tell it to forward port 27910 to that IP address.
-
Ok I fixed that. Problem is, I have two routers. Router1 is what my computer is connected to. Router1 is connect to Router2. I don't know what to about forwarding on router2.
-
Where?

Shock. Don't even think about making a 24/7 shock server. If you did that, you would be a marked man. Trust me, I pay KnacK the travel expenses and chainsaw hire costs.
-
I wouldn't do that. I just want it in my rotation...I think I've learned my lesson about one map 24/7's. BAD IDEA!
-------------------------
I may try directly connecting my computer to Router2 and see what I can do. It may possibly work. Though I would have to mess up my current settings and setup a static ip. But if it works it's worth it. I know it's possible to make it work through my current settings but...I'm not that great at networking. My dad could do it though I'll have him do it.
-
So I connect my computer to Router2. I start the server, I just figure I'll go onto tanother computer and see if it's there. It is. But then I find out it's because when I connected my computer to Router2, the 2 computers were on the network and there it saw it as a LAN game...you just can't win!!!
-
FOr the second router, you have to port forward 27910 from the internet router to the internal router:
internet -> [1st router - NAT 27910 to WAN IP of 2nd router] -> [2nd router - NAT 27910 to IP of your pc]
If you post the ips of all of your equipment, it might be easier.
-
Lemme get this straight. Router1 is what I am currently connected to. Router1 is connected to router2 which is connected to the internet through a modem. I don't know if you giving me directions for my temporary settings but to clear things up that is how am I setup right now. And another thing how do I find the IP of my router?
-
Draw us a picture of your network from the "Internet" to your pc.
-
Ok. I'll do the best I can...

Rtr stands for router if u didn't already get that. ;)
-
I was able to run a server off a computer connected to router 2 and people joined! Problem is I can't see it on the server list....so now I am really confused...
-
is router one a switch or a router?
What's the model of the device?
-
It's a Linksys router. Model BEFSR41.
-
People are actually playing on my server now...I just can't see it in the server list! I can only see it on the computer the server's being hosted on. Makes no sense to me....
-----
Edit: and I'm sure it's there because I see it in DP Resource Server Status page...
It's "{eX.Sp} Public"
http://digitalpaint.therisenrealm.com/tools/serverbrowser2/
And people are playing (I wish I could play too). I just don't understand it....
-
whats the IP address of your server
-
It's 76.4.68.110:18107
-
and When I try to connect by IP it does this over and over...
-
STOP
Did you set the port in your server?
Did you forward the correct port in your router?
Where in the hell did you get 18107?
-
port no I dont know how to set the port. as fo how I got that port no clue but on router the router the hosting computer is connected to, I don't even have that port forwaded...im clueless
-
Port in the server: open myserver.cfg or whatever u called it and put it: "set port 27910", if u have 2 servers put that in one and put "set port 27911" in the other one. Router..... Hmm. What manufactor is it and do u know the admin login and pass to get into its control panel.
-
and When I try to connect by IP it does this over and over...
I've done something similar. The thing is some linksys routers won't forward a port from the internal interface directed at the external IP back to your server.
Manually join it using the internal IP and you'll be able to play. It won't show in the server browser for you or anyone else behind "rtr2" but it will for everyone else.
edit: it might be useful to run "tracert www.dpball.com" from your computer and then another not behind router 2 then post the results.
The first 2 or 3 hops would help illustrate the what's actually connected to what.
-
if you want to see your own server try clicking the "refresh" button before the "update" button should appear at the top
-

Yes I have admin and pass to both routers. I know how to port forward and I have done it correctly. I just hadn't set the port for the server...

I will try that but I'm not at home right now and I'll get back to you with the results...

I did a tracert to www.dplogin.com Here is the results:

what results?
-
what does that have to do with setting the port on the server or the routers?
-

I read one of the posts out of order and thought you still wanted equipment IP's in which case the first two hops would show the router IPs ... but from the wrong direction unfortunately. Oops.
-
since 192.168.2.1 is your internet router, you need to port forward the first router 27910 to 192.168.1.1
On the second router, port forward 27910 to the ip address of your server.

Somehow I doubt there's a route from 192.168.2.0 to 192.168.1.0 subnet because of the NAT. They'll need WAN IP of the router at 192.168.1.1 which will be something like 192.168.2.xxx
but then....
Yes I have admin and pass to both routers. I know how to port forward and I have done it correctly. I just hadn't set the port for the server...
I'm curious what's the current status if you think you have the port forwarding correct and now the server set to the right port.
-
Internet -> public side router 2 -|- private side router 2 ( 192.168.2.1) -> wan side R2 -|-192.168.1.1 -> ip of server
NAT 27910 to 192.168.1.1 NAT 27910 to IP of server
-
what results?
You told me to run tracert command in cmd for www.dplogin.com Those were the results.
-

192.168.1.1 is my internet router. 192.168.2.1 is connected to 192.168.1.1 but whatever I'll just flip what you told me to do.
-
Ok this is what the port forwarding page entries look like:
You can't change the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, entries of the IP only the 4th so I can't forward to the IP of rouer one which is 192.168.1.1
-
If that is the page for the internet router, then that is correct.
On teh second router, enter the same but make the ip address the ip of your server.
-
No thats router 2. It doesn't give you the option to change anything but the last three numbers of the IP.
-
post a screenshot of the NAT page for the other router.
ANswer the following:
Router 1 WAN IP address
Router 2 WAN IP address
Address of server on YOUR network.
-
What exactly is the WAN IP address? And as for the server address it's just my external IP... 76.4.68.110:27910
-
The WAN address is hte outside address of the router. The IP address that shows up when you do a status. Its the side that gets the ip address from teh device in front of it.
Your external IP address IS NOT YOUR INTERNAL SERVER IP ADDRESS. I want to know the internal ip address of your server.
-
This is all getting complicated fast. I don't know how to get all those so could you tell me how? Sorry for my noobishness... :-\
