Title: A appeal for our mappers
Post by: Viper on February 17, 2008, 05:22:53 AM
First of all, you all did a great job.
1) we have too many maps for a 2on2 or 3on3,but we need more maps for a 4on4 or 5on5
2)You released many new maps, but who played a map of you in a match ?

typical matchmaps are : pp1(1,5years),c1(9,5 years),airtime(2years),pbcup_renoir(1,5years),shazam22(6years)
or something like that

In the last 2 months, you released like 40 maps, but noone of them is a matchmap or a pubmap.

Please, dont release your maps after 1 day or 2 days.
Try to make maps with :

- more ways
- good gameplay
- 2 flags

etc..

I think DT's maps are pretty awsome. Perfugio , pbcup_sassault , summer , sassult3 , carpathian , crimethink....

We have many 2v2/3v3 maps because people get tired/bored of sitting around mapping large maps all the time. If we had better models to map with I would have some great maps coming out, but I don't want to spend 6 months making one model with 100+ brushes and still have it look like crap.

you most definitely forgot renoir, which in my opinion, is the best.

Good grief Viper, You mention Shazam*, PP1... However I submit that regardless of the maps, quality, whether they release it after '1 day or 2 days' or 2 months etc., a large portion of people will be playing the same junk no matter what...
xbmap, blitz, :)

Thats when you break compatibility with a new map format and don't convert those maps.  :D

I fear that if I break compatibility, those will be the first maps to be converted (and done so poorly), and the maps that are actually halfway decent won't be.

This is kind of off topic, but this mentality has been bothering me for a long time. While I personally prefer to create, and play, larger maps usually. Small maps like xbmap1 are still fun. Sure, it may not be very well crafted or detailed, but it's a fun map to play. That's all the really matters in a game

That being said, I'm all for more large maps :)

Jits: It should be you and/or a couple of other good mappers who decide which maps can officially be played in pb2 and which not. For you can do that, you'd need to make all servers only play the maps which are officially pb2 maps. That would solve problems as "too many garbage maps taking up disk space" and "garbage maps played in matches".

Why strangle creativity? Let people play what they like to play.

Cute, but if we see the other way around..Why should we be obligated (matches) to play maps we don't like AND are terrible looking AND with terrible gameplay AND altough small, with terrible r_speeds AND not lit AND....
There's a reason why those horrible maps are not played in tournys and so..

Airtime (actually its the FIRST edition, not the third...) for example.

We play it like three times a day against aT and its getting boring -.-

Play good maps were you need some strategy and tactics, not just 8-hour-pub-play-skills..

but most low-or midskilled-clans don't know other maps or don't have enough tactic-skills to play those 2+ way-maps.

Hmm

your not really obliged to stay on a map as there is usually at least one map that is pretty decent being played
